Supervision Masterclass

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this masterclass, participants will be able to:

• Articulate the key principles of neurodiversity affirming practice and how they apply to work with children (Competency 1: Effective supervision practices and 6: Legal and ethical considerations)

• Critically reflect on personal biases and beliefs that may impact supervision of clinicians working with neurodivergent children and their families (Competency 2: Supervisory relationship and 6: Legal and ethical considerations)

• Implement supervision strategies that support supervisees to engage in deliberate and reflective practice which enhances therapeutic relationships and respects neurodivergent experiences (Competency 1: Effective supervision practices and 3: Assessing psychological competencies)

• Support supervisees to develop skills in recognising and honouring diverse expressions of neurodivergence across cultural contexts (Competency 5: Responsiveness to diversity)

• Guide supervisees in identifying and addressing ethical considerations specific to neurodiversity affirming practice (Competency 6: Legal and ethical considerations)

• Apply practical techniques for helping supervisees navigate challenges when shifting to neurodiversity affirming approaches (Competency 3: Assessing psychological competencies and 4: Evaluating the supervisory process)

Assessment

Assessment of skills and knowledge will occur throughout the training in a variety of ways. Participants will be required to engage in self-reflection, and participate in role play scenarios and small group discussions, with peer and trainer feedback provided. Participants will also complete an individual multiple-choice quiz at the end of the day’s training, to demonstrate achievement of key learning outcomes.
