Supervision Masterclass

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this masterclass, participants will be able to:

1. Identify and reflect on personal biases and assumptions related to neurodivergence, disability, and chronic health conditions that may impact the supervisory relationship (Competency 5: Responsiveness to diversity)
2. Explain key principles of neurodiversity and disability-affirming practice and apply them within the supervision context (Competency 5: Responsiveness to diversity)
3. Adapt supervision methods to accommodate different neurotypes, physical access needs, and health-related considerations while maintaining standards for professional competence (Competencies 1: Effective supervision practices and 2: Supervisory relationship)
4. Implement effective communication strategies that respect diverse communication styles and accessibility needs (Competency 2: Supervisory relationship)
5. Demonstrate increased awareness of the intersectionality between neurodivergence, disability, chronic health, and other aspects of identity and experience (Competency 5: Responsiveness to diversity)
6. Apply strategies to create a safe, accessible, and supportive supervisory relationship that honours autonomy and presumes competence (Competency 2: Supervisory relationship and Competency 4: Evaluating the supervisory process)
7. Develop skills to provide feedback and assessment in ways that recognize diverse strengths and support areas of challenge (Competency 3: Assessing psychological competencies)
8. Identify accessibility needs and appropriate accommodations for supervisees with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions (Competency 1: Effective supervision practices)
9. Develop strategies to support supervisees with fluctuating health conditions while maintaining appropriate supervision standards (Competency 3: Assessing psychological competencies)
10. Recognise the impact of ableism on supervisees with visible and invisible disabilities in professional psychology contexts (Competency 4: Evaluating the supervisory process and Competency 6: Legal and ethical considerations)

Assessment

Assessment of skills and knowledge will occur throughout the training in a variety of ways. Participants will be required to engage in self-reflection, and participate in role play scenarios and small group discussions, with peer and trainer feedback provided. Participants will also complete an individual multiple-choice quiz at the end of the day’s training, to demonstrate achievement of key learning outcomes.
