The purpose of Part 1 of Supervisor Training is to provide participants with a knowledge base that equips them with a thorough understanding of the key skills and competencies required to be a board-approved supervisor, with particular emphasis on the requirements of supervision for different pathways and ethical and legal considerations, to prepare participants to move on to the skills-based part of training offered in Part 2.

Course Information
Part 1 of the supervisor training consists of 7 self-paced online modules that address components of the 6 competencies for supervisors as determined by the Psychology Board of Australia, provide context for the need for and purpose of regulation in the field of Psychology and supervision in Australia, and provide an opportunity for revision of key principles and final assessment. Each module is estimated to take 1 – 1 ½ hours to complete, with a total learning time of 7 – 10 hours.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the training, attendees will:
1. Understand the process of supervision from a competency-based framework in the context of professional regulation.
2. Identify administrative requirements needed to begin the supervision process (e.g. contract, goals etc.)
3. Identify requirements of supervision for difference registration pathways.
4. Understand different ways that a supervisee’s competencies can be monitored and assessed.
5. Understand important factors in developing the Supervisory relationship and managing challenges that may occur.
6. Recognise the necessary skills required for effective supervision.
7. Be aware of ethical and professional factors that must be considered in supervision.
8. Identify cultural and social diversity factors that can influence supervision.
